Publishing websites encompass individual writers or businesses who publish books for a living, be it in hard copy or eBook format. A website for this industry will include a lot of functionality with the purpose of encouraging users to buy their books. Aside from the obvious functionality – a shopping cart / ecommerce solution (I use WooCommerce), it will also usually include a blog to engage readers year-round and promote healthy SEO, an advanced search filter system to help users find the books they want, an online newsletter to keep fans up to date on new books released, free downloads relating to their books, an author directory for information about the author(s) and/or illustrator(s), and a whole stack more features.
